Hello June Opportunities For Change

                                           Maritime Festival June 6 2015

 I think it is amazing that we are already into June. Last summer didn’t seem that long ago. The children will be out for the summer within a couple weeks or so. They may go to camps and families onto vacations however there are still opportunities for change.

What I mean by that there will be activities where we can be involved in our friends and families lives. This weekend here in Gig Harbor, Washington we are having what is called the Maritime Festival. It has been going on for many years. When I was in high school they had another name for it. They called it Harbor Holidays. The name was changed to the Maritime Festival back in the eighties. On Saturday they begin with a parade down the main street. Depending on the weather a lot of the locales show up for the parade and good for those who are visiting as well. They can get an idea what the people and the town of Gig Harbor is like. I go so that I can hook up with old friends that I may only see this week and catch up with their lives. This is where helping others can get under way.

In the afternoon after the parade is over they have stands where you can get food and information about local businesses. This is another way to be involved. Also on Saturday afternoon they have the blessing of the fishing fleet that have or are ready to set for the season of fishing up in Alaska.

On Sunday they continue having the stands. Nothing as involved as Saturday however you can hear and see live bands as well. Also the local school choirs and bands will have their opportunities to show off their talents.

Skansie Park which is named after one of the families that have been in Gig Harbor since it became a town not only will have stands this weekend they will have outdoor concerts through the summer on Tuesday Nights. If you are in the area a good time to hear multiple bands coming out.

I know that many places have festivals and events throughout the summer so I recommend that you try to attend as many as possible that you can. This is a great way to hook up with old friends.
